Candy Cane Lane

It's been a while since I blogged so mostly this is going to be a few posts of pictures!

For Family Home Evening (FHE) we decided to go out to eat and then to Candy Cane Lane. We left it a little late so we had no time to go to a sit down place so we went to Wendy's. Yes it's not the greatest place for a 15 month old to eat but she loved it! After a treat we headed off to Candy Cane Lane.

We even shared a donut. Again not super healthy but it was our FHE treat and the kid loves chocolate!

There were some nice houses. Wish we could have walked all the Ave's but someone was a little tired and cranky and ready for bed after a few blocks.

Talia loves being outside and carried by Jason. She actually cried most of the way home when we took her out of the baby Bjorn and in the van.

Edmonton's so good at having activities for families to do throughout the year and I look forward to this one ever year. Maybe next year we'll be able to go for longer!

Kids Need Breaks Too!!!

Talia's been sick this past week and I've had a cold so basically we stayed in the house and had a lazy week. Little did I know kids don't love just sitting and resting. I think she got cabin fever and surprisingly so did I! Talia's still got a runny nose and cough so I didn't want to bring her out to play with other kids. Anyways we decided to go on a walk today and it was awesome! 

We got to try out her new snow suit and enjoy the different scenery other than our living room. Had to take a few pictures because I think she's pretty darn cute in her snow suit!

 She kept trying to come and grab my camera, these pictures took some convincing.

After we came in she was way less cranky and actually ate a good lunch. So maybe kids need breaks too?

I think we'll be going on some more walks, perhaps two a day this winter (only if it's -20 or under).

So we thought it would be fun to get a picture with Talia and Santa this year and this is what happened! HA! We somewhat expected her to react this way but not to this extent. She cried the whole way out of the mall and was on and off crying on the way home. Pretty funny and I'm glad we got this photo. Maybe next year she'll warm up to him a little!

Jason's Birthday Weekend!

So I feel about the lamest wife ever. I managed to charge my camera for the weekend, but failed to bring to ever event! I wish I had more pictures because we actually had quite a fun weekend!

The weekend started Thursday when I went out and splurged on a gift for Jason. If anyone knows Jason's he's particular about what he gets and would usually prefer to be there. But I LOVE birthdays and I love getting someone gifts and surprising them, especially someone as close to me as my husband! In the end I usually never get Jason a gift we go together and he picks one out. This time that was not going to fly.

Anyways I go out and buy a gift way above our budget (just to make up for all the gifts I couldn't buy on my own), but what do I do... I stress the rest of the day. That night we're talking and I'm telling how much I am stressing about this gift and he's being super positive reassuring me,  "If I don't like it we can just return it, right?" HA!!!! So I blurt out, "No it's an exchange store, so if you hate it we can return it and we can use the money to buy a purse for me and another type of bag for you!" Did i just say that out loud? Yep, and I didn't even notice it till Jason pointed it out. So I showed him the gift (I was actually almost in tears... hormones) and to my surprise he actually likes it and is going to keep it! YAY!!! Made me feel better because he said he probably wouldn't have gone and spent the money on it but he really likes it. So I got him a side bag. More professional looking than the bag pack he continues to carry around in residency.

Friday Talia slept over at her Nana and Grandpas place. So Jason and I went out to his favorite restaurant, Than Thans. Then to the Oilers game thanks to my Dad who scored us some tickets. Then home for a night of sleeping in. Unfortunately we ending up waking up at 7 20 am because my work called in desperation for more staff. Next time we have the house to ourselves remind me to turn off the ringers!!!

Saturday was Jason's actually birthday and he needed some clothes so we actually went shopping with Talia for 6 hours! If anyone knows me I hate shopping for more than a couple hours at best so I did my best to be patient because it was Jason's birthday. That night we made cinnamon buns. Thankfully Jason likes to help with the baking so that worked out nice for me!

Anyways next time we go shopping it wont be on the eve of day lights savings. Talia didn't nap and woke up at 4 30 the next morning.

Sunday we celebrated Jason's, Jordan (Breanne's husband), and Dave's (Taren's husbands) birthdays at my parents house. Dave's is on October 26, and Jordan's is actually on the same day as Jason's. Crazy enough they're born the same year just an hour or so apart. TWINS that aren't related! It was a fun night. We had steak dinner, shared a memory, nice thought, or birthday wish for each birthday boy (tradition at our house, some find it lame but I like it!), opened gifts, and had cake.

After all that stressing I think it was a successful weekend! We're glad Jason was born and love him to pieces. Things I love about him:

-He works really at residency

-He always worries about not giving his girls enough time

-He's protective of Talia. Yes she'll need to toughen up but it's cute

-He will listen to me talk about nothing for sometimes hours at a time

Halloween

 I must say I actually do really like halloween. Well I never liked going trick or treating when I was younger, but I do like dressing up and it seems like the older I get I'm finding it funner. I'm excited to do more fun stuff next year, especially since Talia will be able to do more.

I'm not much of a baker but we did decorate cookies for FHE.

 She also grew hair this halloween! CRAZY!

 Yes she was a unicorn. I feel like a bad mom, it's kind of cute kind of weird, but in the end she ended up liking the costume. She was pretty sad her because just a few minutes before she smoked her eye. (Not sure if you can see it but it's her right eye, but licorice made it all better!)

 Yes Jason and I were chief Indians! Well I guess I'm the chiefs wife and we have a unicorn.

(I do have a belly but it does look larger than it is because I am sticking it out to rest Talia on!)

 Grandma and Grandpa Low made it up for this "festive" weekend so we got a picture of the Edmonton Low Grandchildren!

So we trunk or treated on Saturday and my parents were able to go come and see Talia adorable costume and then on Sunday we had a Low family dinner and handed out some candy to those who trick or treated on Sunday. It was fun seeing all the kids run to the door and look at the kids costumes.

Reported cute moments of Talia

Last month I went back to work casually in order to bank some hours and in all honestly to see the staff and patients I work with. Anyways it's been nice and even once and awhile Jason is able to watch Talia.

Today they spent some time together playing in the morning, going to Costco, and having her monthly weigh in. It was an adventure and when I hear of the cute moments that happened I am grateful one of us was able to witness them!

1.) During their morning adventures, Jason went up to get ready for the day while Talia stayed on the main level, what he thought she was doing, watching toy story. Anyways when he came down stairs he found this...

 Thank goodness for a blanky!

If anyone knows Talia, you know she NEVER just falls sleep out in the open. She has not been rocked to sleep since she was 2 months old and ever since then she hates to be rocked to sleep. It's crib or nothing. So I guess this morning she woke up pretty early and decided to have a cat nap.

Not a bad thing since she's now only taking on nap a day. I think it refreshed her for the rest of the morning till it was actually time for her nap.

2.) So lately Talia's been really getting a hang of some words. Not just mimicking us but understanding when to use them. Here's an example:

Jason decided to play mom (which he plays a lot and helps out a lot) and go to Costco. While he had just finished strapping Talia in to the cart a lady came right beside them to grab her own cart. Talia looked right at this lady and said, "Hel-oo." Talia does not show much expression and also looks about 5 months younger than she is so you can imagine how cute and funny this must have looked. The lady was like wow she's so smart! Jason informed her she's older than she looks!

Maybe this is cuter to Jason and I, but I think it's fun to hear her using words appropriately. And "Hel-oo" not just Hi... come on so cute! She says hello whenever the phone rings or sometimes when she sees Jason and I.

Other words she's starting to use better, she's know 'uh oh' very well now. Not sure if that's a good thing, I must say it a lot. But whenever she's drops something or is trying to do something and she can't she says 'Uh-oh'. Funny! When I say lets go have a bath, she's goes right for the stairs and says ba ba ba! She loves those baths. She uses a few more words, and definitely understands a lot more than she says but Hel-oo is by far the cutest in our minds. I'm finding this age SO much fun!

Next adventure on the Daddy Daughter day was her big weigh in. Yes we're not terribly worried about her weight but I've been told by my favorite pediatrician (who I work with at the Stollery) that we should continue to monitor weights even though she's hitting milestones. So that we will do until she's a bit bigger.

 Any guesses? She was 16 lbs 13 Oz's at her immunization day. That was with a onsie on and a fairly new diaper. So 3.5 weeks later, with just a diaper she's a whopping 16 lbs 14ozs! Will she ever be in a face forward car seat? We will see!

I guess another funny thing she did, Talia and I were at Amelia's for a play date with some of the Low cousins and their kids, and a baby just a few months older than Talia went to go and take her blanky. He wasn't even taking it in a malicious way, just wanting to try it out.  Anyways this DID NOT fly with Talia. She pulled and held on, actually never let go but it looked like she gave up fight or knew she wouldn't win in the long run and it looked like she felt she was about to lose her beloved blanky. So she just looked at me with the saddest eyes, stuck out her bottom lip and actually started to tear up. I truly believe this was not a fake cry (or else she would have be whining and crying louder), she just looked so sad. Broke my heart but made me also laugh a little as well. 

That day I washed them and all she could do was stare through the glass of the washer and cry. I had to shut the door and distract her. Oh how she loves those blankies. For now it's cute, but when she's older I don't mind them staying at home but they can't be coming with us everywhere!

So she loves dancing and her way of dancing is shaking her arms, screaming, and walking around.
